Pediatric Neuropsychology Specialist
Frequently asked questions
A pediatric neuropsychologist is a licensed psychologist with specialized training in how a child’s brain develops and how it affects learning, behavior, emotions, and daily life. They are trained in integrating standardized data and reported information to assist with diagnosing and developing recommendations for cognitive, emotional, and behavioral conditions.
The American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology (AACN) describes guidelines for specialized training required to be a boarded or board-eligible neuropsychologist. This includes additional 2-year post training in neuropsychological assessment after receiving their doctorate degree.
We assess concerns related to early development, attention, memory, problem-solving, language, learning differences, developmental delays, social skills, emotional regulation, and the effects of medical or neurological conditions. We use assessment to gain understanding of one’s thinking skills including strengths and weakness, any changes overtime, and how to support you and your child across settings.
If you are interested in a neuropsychological evaluation, you will first need to complete our contact page. Within 2-3 business days, our office will contact you for more information and discuss next steps.
A neuropsychology evaluation involves 3 appointments with the neuropsychologist. The process includes an initial interview with parents or legal guardian where we learn more about your child’s history and current functioning. This is followed by direct in-person testing with the child (through games, puzzles, and problem-solving tasks, questionnaires). The final appointment is a feedback session to review results and recommendations. Initial and feedback occur virtually in IL or WI. Testing is conducted in person.
We work with children from infancy through young adulthood, adapting our approach to meet the needs of each developmental stage and ability level.
School testing focuses on academic achievement and meeting educational eligibility requirements. A neuropsychological evaluation looks at a broader range of brain-based skills, offering deeper insight into why a child might be struggling and how to best support them.
We recommend telling your child they’ll be doing a variety of activities, or “brain games.” We do puzzles, build with blocks, look at pictures, all to help us understand how they learn best. A good night’s sleep, breakfast, and any necessary glasses or hearing devices are important. We encourage bringing snacks, juice, water, and any items of comfort. At Neuroclarity Center, we strive to make your child feel at ease while working in our office.
We offer Out-of-Pocket flat rate options for evaluations, start to finish.
BCBS IL will also be accepted. Insurance coverage varies and we do our best to follow up with the insurance company prior to testing to avoid service denials.
